    Event Description

Making sense of business data is challenging in ways that are not always obvious. There are so many questions: How do I know I have the “right” business? How do I differentiate among businesses with the same name? What about conflicting signals? Is a location or a name more important in resolving identity? How does the age of the data impact my decisions in the context of rapidly changing information? Identity resolution is at the core of nearly all decisions related to the discovery, curation, and synthesis of information. Nevertheless, it is perhaps one of the most overlooked and often trivialized aspects of working with disparate corpora of data. This session will consist of four major sections. The first section will introduce the concept of an entity and introduce the fundamentals of identity resolution. The second session will cover issues surrounding the collection and curation of identity data. The fourth section will introduce the use of technical selectors Finally, the session will cover the complexity introduced in a global context by challenges such as multilingual data, flexible ontologies, and jurisdictional issues.
